"I love Hans´s informative and easygoing style as our tour organizer. He is engaging, knowledgable and intuitive with his audience. I asked a lot of questions - from wondering about the crops we passed, the meaning behind the many bat symbols, to what exactly is in Agua de Valencia - anything that came to mind I asked and received thorough, thoughtful responses. We had a fascinating and fun trip much thanks to Roots & Routes."

testimonies Roots & Routes

"For my most recent visit to Stockholm in late August 2025 I reached out to Hans from Routes and Roots. After learning of the kind of things I wanted to do and see, but also taking my budget into consideration, he tailored an experience just for me! He organised my transport requirements and also found restaurant options that suited my dietary requirements. The hotel he booked aligned with my needs, and his proposed itinerary of activities provided both variety and flexibility. Just the help I needed to ensure a positive holiday experience. I plan to contact him again soon to help plan my trip to southern Spain in 2026!"

"Hans is an amazing tour organizer. He’s charming and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about beautiful Valencia and we saw lovely windy streets in the old city, fountains and churches! He took us to delicious spots for paella lunches, we even got to try noodle paella, wonderful ! I would definitely recommend booking your tour here."

Travel to the heart of the Mediterranean

A place of contrasts awaits travelers where a charming historic center is paired with futuristic buildings. This is Valencia, one of the most welcoming cities in Spain to spend a few days in. Beyond the cultural excitement of its streets, a stroll or a swim on its Mediterranean beaches is always a must. Of course you have to try its signature dish -  authentic paella! And don’t miss other delicacies like  clóchinas (a type of stew) or horchata (a type of almond drink).

People who come to Valencia fall in love with Valencia.

People who come to Valencia fall in love with Valencia.

This is a truth bigger than the Town Tower - el Miguelete. Surely if you know a friend who has come to Valencia on vacation, they've told you they loved the city and can't wait to return. That's the taste of Valencia – the sweet desire to return!

Fallas. The Fire festival

The City on fire: a unique Fallas experience

Any time is a good time to travel to Valencia, but if there's one date that's particularly special, it's March 19th, the day of the famous Fallas festival celebrated with gigantic burning "cardboard sculptures." The Mediterranean light, mild climate, and the magic of fire make this city a place you'll want to stay.

Going on a culinary tour:
a Paella by the beach

What could beat the idea of heading to one of the city's large sandy beaches and enjoying a paella by the sea in a city where the sun shines more than 300 days per year?

Malvarrosa beach is one of Valencia’s best-known options. The fine golden sand and blue waters are reminiscent of Sorolla's famous paintings of this city. How can you resist a swim? Those looking for wilder landscapes can head to El Saler or take the opportunity to visit El Palmar and try its famous paellas.

The day can culminate on the Albufera, a navigable lake by the sea known as the "mirror of the sun," where you can experience one of the best sunsets in the Mediterranean. The beach isn't the only outdoor activity the city has to offer -  you can also stroll through the extensive Turia urban garden or visit the Bioparc with the family.

As night falls, there's nothing like sitting on a terrace or going to an innovative or Michelin-starred restaurant. You can enjoy the vibrant nightlife of the Carmen neighborhood or check out the newer trendy areas for foodies like Ruzafa.

A Few Words About Me!

Read on to see who I am and what brought me to Roots and Routes.

Hans Sabater

In Stockholm I studied Tourism with a special interest in gastronomy - I love to eat!

I specialize in finding suitable routes to make every occasion special and the best ways to experience life and travel from a sustainable perspective.

Currently I divide my time between Sweden and Spain, trying to combine the best of each culture no matter where I am, which is no small feat.

Having visited more than 85 countries, I consider myself very fortunate! These experiences have helped shape my view of the value of things and what truly matters.

It could be a cup of coffee under the sun in a secluded town square, a glass of Godello in a neighborhood bar, paella with friends, or fideuá, or simply gazing at the bottom of the sea on a summer day.

I believe that small details make great memories so I pay close attention to what is important to you to create experiences that will bring a smile to your face when you look back on them.

Hans Sabater

In my early 20s I set off for the world, leaving my city of Valencia behind. Twenty-five years and many adventures later, I decided to return to the city where I was born. I've come a long way since then and accumulated a wealth of experiences over the years.

My favourite places

Valencia beach
Hans Sabater bar

I love going to the beach, relaxing to the sound of the waves, and feeling the sun on my skin. It's the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the sea.

Paella Valencia

There's nothing like eating a good paella, especially if it's outdoors and overlooking the sea. It's one of my favorite pleasures in Valencia.

I really enjoy sitting on a bar terrace, having a drink while the sun shines. It's a simple moment, but full of joy and good energy.
